Hi there!
Allow me to introduce myself… My name is Lianne Shaval. I’m a new author and just recently published my first book trilogy, Our Ships Story. For those who’d like to know more about the author of the book they might be interested in reading, I’ve been captivated by the written word ever since the age of five. It started with me just reading the dictionary (yes, I used to read every word and definition, lol) and it continued with reading comics, magazines, and books series like The Babysitters Club, Sweet Valley High, and Christopher Pike books.
My writing adventure began in high school, when I discovered that I liked writing scripts and plays. That’s actually how I began writing Our Ships Story, although I didn’t have a name for it yet, and I had intended for it to be a script for a tv show/series. I created the characters first, then created storylines for these characters (kind of like a soap opera).
Unfortunately, life happened and I wasn’t able to finish the script, until almost ten years later, when I found the old flash drive. It was then that I decided I wanted to make it a book trilogy instead. So I began conducting interviews with people of different ages, racial backgrounds, economic statuses, and family dynamics to gain opinions and perspectives—outside of my own—regarding relationships and real-life situations, to make the series have a well-rounded perspective.
I ended up shelving the project once again. However, around the pandemic, I decided I was going to finish this book trilogy and get it published since I had the time off work to do it. The next big challenge I faced was overcoming my fear of inadequacy—which was and still is very hard for me. But with the encouragement of a good friend (to whom I dedicated volume 1 to), my beta readers (whom I mention in my acknowledgments), and my awesome writing coach/editor, Kayla, I was finally able to embrace my writing style, be proud of my accomplishment, and publish it!
So for those of you who might’ve come across this webpage and/or book trilogy, my hope is that you will enjoy these characters and their journey as much as I do!
